HI, I’M JOSE

Hello, I'm Jose Arteaga, a dedicated educator and community leader with a passion for empowering students and supporting educational excellence. I hold Bachelor's degrees in Communication and Political Science from Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, IN, and a Master's degree in Communication from Purdue University Northwest. Currently, I'm working towards a Master's Degree in History, demonstrating my commitment to continuous learning and academic growth.

As a high school social studies teacher, I have firsthand experience with the challenges and opportunities within our education system. My roles as a football coach and track coach have allowed me to mentor and inspire students beyond the classroom, teaching them valuable life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Additionally, I serve as an adjunct professor at Ivy Tech Community College, where I help guide students through the early stages of their higher education journeys.

In my capacity as President of the School City of East Chicago School Board, I have been a vocal advocate for policies that support both academic excellence and personal growth for all students. My experience as an educator provides me with unique insights into the needs of students, teachers, and staff, enabling me to make informed decisions that benefit our entire school community.

I am committed to continuing my service on the School Board to ensure that every student in East Chicago has access to a high-quality education. I believe in fostering an environment where educators are supported and empowered to innovate, and where every student's potential is nurtured. My extensive background in education, combined with my leadership experience, makes me a valuable asset to the School Board and our community.

I am dedicated to transparency, collaboration, and accountability in my work. I listen to the concerns of parents, students, and teachers, and strive to create a school district where everyone can thrive. By continuing my service on the School Board, I aim to build a stronger, more vibrant educational community in East Chicago.

Join me in my mission to make a lasting positive impact on our schools. Together, we can create a brighter future for our students and our community.

MEET MY FAMILY

In the heart of East Chicago, our family's story unfolds through a tapestry of hard work, dedication, and shared dreams. At the helm is my father, Jose (Pepe) Arteaga, a cornerstone of our community as the owner and operator of Pepe's Auto Service for over 25 years. His passion for cars and commitment to craftsmanship have not only built a thriving business but also earned him a reputation for reliability and integrity.

Supporting him every step of the way is my mother, Alicia (Liz) DeLeon Arteaga, whose journey began in the education sector as a teacher's aide at Harrison and Lincoln Elementary. When I came into this world, she gracefully transitioned into the role of co-owner and now serves as the meticulous bookkeeper of my dad's shop. Her dedication ensures that the business runs smoothly behind the scenes, balancing the books with precision and care.

My brother, Miguel, adds another layer of achievement to our family narrative. A proud graduate of Ball State University, he has carved his path in the media world and currently works with Lakeshore PBS, where his passion for storytelling and community shines through.

Together, we embody the spirit of East Chicago—resilient, supportive, and deeply rooted in service to others. Our journey is not just about individual success but about the collective strength and unity we find in family. Each of us contributes uniquely to our community, driven by the values instilled by our parents—hard work, compassion, and a commitment to making a positive impact.
